Marianna Angel (1992*) is a Colombian-Swiss pianist, composer and improviser based in Basel. She studied classical piano with Pierre Sublet and Antoine Françoise at the Bern University of the Arts, and deepened her master's degree in composition and improvisation with Christian Henking and Simon Steen-Andersen, among others. Angel is part of several collaborations, including with musician and artist Yanik Soland (Soland Angel), Laura Chihaia (ANGEL CHIHAIA Duo), Michelle Steinbeck/Gracia Steinemann and played in the improvisation ensemble KRAN (with Tizia Zimmermann, Miao Zhao, Noel Schmidlin and Stanislas Pili, among others) until 2020.

In 2022, she and her Duo Soland Angel received a grant for improvised music from the Canton of Basel-Land. They were also selected by Atelier Mondiale for a six-month fellowship at the Cité des Arts in Paris.

In recent years, as a musician, she has been part of projects at Theater Basel (Das Grosse Heft), with Ensemble NEC (Chroma, Rebecca Saunders), and at Wien Modern (Ceremony, Georg Friedrich Haas). She has also increasingly participated in art contexts, such as Christian Marclay's INVESTIGATIONS project or playing at the Centre Culture Suisse. In addition to her work as a performer, she has been teaching at the Musik Akademie Basel from 2021 to summer 2023 as part of the talent development program, preparing prospective music students for entrance exams in improvisation, ear training, and theory.
